What is SCH STD Pipe?

In the piping industry, SCH STD Pipe refers to standard thickness with SCH being the schedule. Each pipe grade is manufactured with a said thickness that is called the schedule. There are different schedules ranging from SCH 5, 10, 20, 40, 60, 80, 120, 140, and 160. They can also be referred to as extra heavy (XH), extra strong (XS) double extra strong (XXS), and double extra heavy (XXH). The schedule of the pipe determines its strength and pressure holding capacity across different stress-induced environments. The pipes can be availed in seamless or welded types to suit different configurations. The versatile grade of pipe schedules range in sizes between ½ inch up to 48 inches or more. ;

Where to use Schedule STD Pipe?

All pipes are designed with a specific schedule. The schedule helps in determining the wall thickness of this grade, thereby indicating the pressure holding capacity of the pipes. An SCH 5 pipe is designed to function in a low-pressure and temperature system, while an SCH 160 pipe can be used across high-pressure and temperature reducing environments.
