A duplex grade is a microstructure consisting of austenitic and ferritic grades. A Duplex Pipe is designed with a superior chemical concentration containing nickel, chromium, molybdenum, and other constituents. This gives the Duplex 2205 Pipe superior resistance to corrosive and oxidative media across stress-induced environments. These pipes also showcase enhanced resistance to pitting by acids and crevice corrosion. The Duplex Stainless Steel Pipe exhibits twice the strength of normal steel grades. These pipes work well in temperatures ranging from -50 degrees F up to 600 degrees F in the system. A 2205 Stainless Steel Pipe possesses superior strength and offers good weldability and workability across different systems. These piping grades have a lower thermal expansion area and are generally annealed at temperatures of 1900 degrees F.
A Duplex Stainless Steel Tube is designed possessing superior mechanical and physical properties. These tubes possess a density of 7.82 kg/m3 and have an elastic modulus of 190Gpa. The Duplex 2205 Tube is produced with a minimum tensile strength of 621mpa. These tubes have minimum yield strength of 448mpa and can be easily elongated by 25% in the system. Duplex 2205 Tubing showcases a superior hardness of Brinell 239HB max. Any bending of this tubing requires special equipment with a larger capacity. The Duplex Tube is a common feature in different processing equipment, chemical items, oil and gas exploration, and marine environments.
The Alloy 2205 Pipe is manufactured in three configurations namely seamless, welded, and erw. Each of the types has its own set of features that set them apart from the other. SA 789 UNS S31803 Duplex Seamless Pipe is the strongest grade designed by passing hot steel billets through extruded metal to precisely shape them. These pipes are expensive but have a higher load-bearing capacity. ASTM A790 UNS S31803 Duplex Welded Pipe is a low-cost alternative to this pipe. These pipes have lower strength as they are designed by welding pieces of sheets or strips in place. An ASTM A789 UNS S31803 ERW Pipe is a module that is manufactured by passing electric current and joining the pieces of metal in place. The weldability of SAF 2205™ is good. Welding must be carried out without preheating and subsequent heat treatment is normally not necessary. Suitable methods of fusion welding are manual metal-arc welding (MMA/SMAW) and gas-shielded arc welding, with the TIG/GTAW method as first choice.
For SAF 2205™, heat input of 0.5-2.5 kJ/mm and interpass temperature of <150°C (300°F) are recommended.
